U.S. Bank Home Mortgage, Freddie Mac and The Community College Foundation formed an innovative partnership in September 2004 to dismantle misperceptions about the home buying process. Through this effort, thousands of individuals in underserved communities across the country gained access to homeownership education and credit counseling that prepared them for the responsibilities of owning a home and becoming financially literate.
The Five Star Service Express (eBus) delivered homeownership education, financial services, and career opportunities directly to the doorsteps of the people—going to where they work, where they play and where they worship. The 2004 tour traveled throughout the Midwest to cities in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Missouri, and Iowa.
Individuals, who came aboard the 40-foot commercial bus—retrofitted into a mobile technology center, were able to access the Internet via 2-way satellite technology at each of the 10-computer workstations. Online tools and personalized services were available in both English and Spanish. On board, individuals benefited from:
US Bank Homeownership Mobile events partnered with local organizations to offer an array of services aboard the eBus. Partners included local housing and credit counseling agencies, city housing departments, faith-based organizations, community-based organizations, and government funded agencies.
In 2005, the eBus traveled to cities in Nebraska, Colorado, Nevada, Arizona, California, Oregon, Washington, and Idaho. Since September 2004, more than 5000 people visited the eBus and more than 1500 individuals received one-on-one counseling—helping them towards the path to homeownership and financial stability!
Community College Foundation would like to extend its sincere appreciation to US Bank and Freddie Mac for allowing us to partner with them on this valuable program from September 2004-September 2005.
